FAQs
"How old does my child have to be to start lessons?"
We typically welcome students from around age 4 and up! At that age, lessons are playful and engaging, using musical games to introduce keyboard geography, rhythms, basics of music notation and early listening skills. Every child develops at their own pace, so we tailor the approach to suit them.
"I only have a keyboard, do I need a piano before I can start lessons?"
A digital keyboard is absolutely fine to begin with, but you will find that you will need to upgrade pretty quickly. It’s great for early learning and getting familiar with the instrument. As students progress, we recommend upgrading to an acoustic piano or to a digital piano with weighted keys and a sustain pedal to fully support more advanced techniques. We’re happy to advise on what to look for.
"We've got a holiday booked and won't be able to make a lesson, what do we do?"
We understand that life can be hectic, and you may not be able to make a lesson for one reason or another.
Let us know as soon as possible, and we'll always try to make up that lesson at a time that suits everyone - this can be by rescheduling the lesson or increasing the length of other lessons. Please see our full terms and conditions for further details.
"I don't have a piano at home for practice & I don't want to purchase until committed"
If you're not quite ready to buy, we offer keyboard and digital piano hire starting at just £20/month (inc VAT). It's a great way to get started without the upfront commitment, and we’re happy to help you find the right instrument when you’re ready to invest in your own.
"Do we need to buy workbooks etc. on top of the lesson costs?"
Your lesson fee covers everything you need to get started, including a custom workbook and most sheet music. If you decide to take exams, you will have to purchase a specific exam book, which our teachers will recommend. No hidden costs or surprise extras here!
“Why do lesson payments continue during holidays?”
To make budgeting easier for families, we divide the annual tuition across 12 equal monthly payments. That means no surprises, and no need to juggle costs during busier times of the year. Lessons pause during scheduled holidays, but the payment plan stays steady all year round.
"I know someone else who would like lessons, can I pass them your details?"
Yes, we love referrals! If someone you know is interested in piano lessons, feel free to pass along our details. We’re always happy to hear from new students.
"Do you enter students for their piano exams?"
While our main focus is on enjoyment and progress, we do prepare learners for graded piano exams if they’d like to work toward formal milestones. It’s always your choice, and we’ll guide you through the process if and when the time feels right. We offer tuition for LCM, ABRSM, Trinity and Rockschool examinations.
"Can piano lessons count towards my Duke of Edinburgh Award?
Absolutely! Piano lessons are a fantastic choice for the Skills section of your DofE Award. Our teachers are more than happy to support you through the process—just make sure to mention it to your teacher as early as possible. They’ll work with you to set achievable goals and will provide the necessary report once your chosen period is complete.
